Sainsbury's Greek Style Natural Yogurt Review

Posted on November 07, 2025

The Sainsbury's Greek Style Natural Yogurt costs £1.15 for just around 500 grams of yogurt. Though, you should know that it is not a Greek Yogurt as suggested by the name it is simply a 'Greek Style' yogurt.

Taste and Texture

On first opening the yogurt it needs to be stirred; it's… well separated when you open it which wasn't a pleasant surprise. Though after this, I did find that it's moderately thick and creamy. However, it doesn't reach the same amount of creaminess or viscosity of a standard Greek Yogurt.

Taste-wise, I found that it has a slightly milky taste as to be expected but it's much more acidic than usual. This gave it a slightly curdy aftertaste. I think it's passable but not the best. I usually eat my yogurt plain but I had to add something to this as I didn't really like the curd taste to it. I think they get around this by calling it Greek Style, as I would've preferred to have a more thick and textural experience. This has a slightly chalky texture to it.

That said, I find it good with some fruit; especially a bit of honey. However, it works well with savoury as well as it adds tang, creaminess and a slight thickness to curries or stews without needing vinegar. I wouldn't really suggest this for eating and instead suggest it for cooking or baking with.

Conclusion

Overall, I found that the Sainsbury's Greek Style Natural Yogurt is honestly a decent option if you're looking for something versatile and cheap. Though it is obviously not authentic, that's obvious in its title and that it is not as thick as an actual Greek Yogurt. The acidity and chalky texture make it less enjoyable to enjoy on its own especially if you prefer a smooth, creamy and rich texture. However, it does redeem itself when you use it when cooking. It adds creaminess and tang to both sweet and savoury dishes without overpowering them.
