Sainsbury's Cheese and Onion Crisps Review

Posted on October 14, 2025

The Sainsbury's Cheese and Onion Crisps cost £1.10 for around six packs of them. They are generally passable as a filler crisp but I won't really recommend them at all. They are heavily greasy and the flavour sometimes gets overpowered by the oil in some of crisps which are too thin.

Taste and Texture

I found the crisps really crispy and crunchy; they have a great snap to them. However, when you hold them, they are really greasy and your hands get greasy after handling them. It would have been better quality for them to have at least let the crisps drain a bit more before they packaged them. They have a very savoury flavour along with a slight moderate amount of umami punch to it but generally they're not as good as a brand like Seabrooks or Walkers.

These crisps, I find, are very well seasoned. There's an even coating of seasoning on each chip which is an issue when you buy budget crisps. However, I did find that some of them just look slightly transparent and taste more of oil than crisp. That was one of the major issues in this pack so there's a high number of oversaturated crisps. Consistent quality doesn't seem to appear here.

Ingredients and Nutritional Information

Ingredients: British Potato, Vegetable Oil (Rapeseed, Sunflower), Dried Onion, Salt, Sugar, Yeast Powder, Yeast Extract, Whole Cows' Milk Powder, Flavourings, Garlic Powder, Acid: Citric Acid; Colours: Curcumin, Paprika Extract.

Nutritional Information per 25g pack: 128 calories, 7.1g fat (0.6g saturates), 13.9g carbohydrates (less than 0.5g sugars), 0.9g fibre, 1.6g protein, 0.28g salt.

Conclusion

Overall, I found these crisps to be a passable albeit a heavily underwhelming experience. While they are initially appealing with their crispy texture and well-seasoned flavour; the excessive greasiness and inconsistent quality of the crisps just detract from any enjoyment. Compared to Walkers and Seabrooks these just fall short completely.
