Sainsburys Olive Spread Review

Posted on September 04, 2025

The Sainsbury's Olive Spread costs £1.45 and is a generally good olive spread for the price. It spreads very well (maybe arguably too well since it melts easily) and the spread itself has a lack of any taste making it great for baking and cooking.

Taste and Texture

I found while using the spread on toast to test the spreading ability that it spreads well. There's absolutely no resistance and the knife will glide into the olive spread and it will evenly be absorbed into whatever you spread it into. The only downside to this is that it will melt quickly if left just slightly higher than room temperature so it's best to keep it in the fridge as long as possible during the summer.

However, I don't believe the taste is the best. I can barely taste it at all and it just… tastes like nothing. The texture in the mouth from this is great though; it's perfectly like melted butter or margarine. Fortunately, the lack of taste is actually a positive as you can just use this in cooking and it won't affect the flavour of whatever you use it in. This makes it quite a clean spread. It's really only a downside if you're just using it on toast.

Ingredients and Nutritional Information

Ingredients: Water, Vegetable Oils (Palm Oil, Rapeseed Oil), Olive Oil (10%), Salt (1%), Vitamin E, Acidity Regulator: Citric acid; Flavouring, Colour: Carotenes; Vitamin A, Vitamin D.

Nutritional Information per 100g: 381 calories, 42g fat (11.3g saturates, 22.9g monounsaturates, 5.8g polyunsaturates), less than 0.5g carbohydrates (less than 0.5g sugars), 0.5g fibre, less than 0.5g protein, 1.1g salt.

Conclusion

Overall, I found this super good due to how excellently it spreads along with its buttery texture. Though its absence of any flavour could be underwhelming if you eat it alone with bread or toast; it makes it perfect for cooking or baking. However, the only issue there is to this is that it melts way too fast making it awful to have out during the summer or in a hot room.
