Lidl Vineyard Shiraz Review
Posted on September 15, 2025
The Lidl Vineyard Shiraz costs £3.99 which is relatively inexpensive for a wine. It has a strong wafting aroma and the scent is quite tannin-rich. While the flavour is much milder than the aroma with notes of oak, dark berries and clove. It is not a strong shiraz but it is okay for the price.
Taste, Texture and Aroma
The aroma of the wine is strong; it comes out and wafts through the air as you open the bottle. The aroma doesn't really dissipate when you're close to the glass. It lingers. The smell is very tannin-rich and smoky. It reminds me of charcoal but with oak bark toasty notes added. The colour of the wine is a deep dark purplish red.
The shiraz as you drink it does not have as strong tannins as the aroma suggests. This makes it a milder wine as the acidity is quite average and not sharp at all. It doesn't really have much of an aftertaste but the aftertaste itself is slightly astringent and dissipates after a few seconds.
The taste, rather than texture, is quite strong on the dark berry side. It then is supplemented by notes of cloves, oak and funnily enough: toast. These are hinted to by the aroma and are followed through warmly by the taste. It is not complex as there are no extra flavours to it other than those I had described.
This wine contains sulphites.
Conclusion
I find the shiraz relatively inexpensive at just £3.99. The value is reflected in what it offers too; the wine presents a surprisingly strong and lingering aroma. The aroma is tannin-rich, smoky and oaky with hints of charcoal and toast. On the palate, however, it is much milder than what the scent suggests. It has dark berry flavours forming the base complemented by cloves and oak notes which finish with a short and slightly astringent aftertaste. While it is not complex; it does offer quite good value for money if you're looking for a budget shiraz.
