Bates Fresh Whole Milk Review

Bates Fresh Whole Milk costs £2.99 and comes in a 2-litre plastic carton jug. It has a much creamier and more clean profile than your average supermarket milk along with also having a much stronger carton that won't explode when dropping it.

Taste and Texture

It has a much creamier body to it compared to standard supermarket milks out there. Though, as I bought this from a local store; I can't really comment on the freshness of the milk. It does, nonetheless have a slightly cleaner taste to along with a hint of sweetness that appears in the end note. Furthermore, I have noticed that the aftertaste of this milk isn't sour. It's got a slight casein sweetness to it, it's quite nice.

The plastic milk carton that it is sold in is much sturdier than the weaker plastic used in supermarket milks. This one has an easier to carry handle and won't instantly explode if accidentally dropped unlike generic supermarket milk.

Also, for those who do want to support farmers better, this has the benefit of not being supermarket controlled/owned so you actually support the farmers by buying it instead of a supermarket taking most of the cut. Thus, I find, this makes the milk much more ethical to purchase.

Conclusion

Though, the milk is objectively more expensive than supermarket milks out there. It has a much higher quality packaging and flavour. The taste and texture of this milk is richer and very creamy. It has a subtly sweet finish that avoids the sour/acidic aftertaste that is often found in supermarket milk. The milk also seems to directly support the farmers rather than a large retailer gives it a ethical advantage too.
