ASDA Smokey Bacon Flavour Crisps Review

Posted on September 30, 2025

The ASDA Smokey Bacon Flavour Crisps costs £3.60 in the Meaty Variety pack which comes with around 24 different flavoured crisp packs. They are really not the best quality compared to the other crisps in the variety pack. They don't really have that bacon taste to them and more rather the artificial pork flavour instead.

Taste and Texture

It's less of a smoky aroma and taste that comes from this pack, their beef flavour has a much smokier taste to it. It doesn't have that slightly sweet charred scent to it. However, it does come through in the aftertaste rather than the taste itself. You get to taste the pork flavour first. However, the pork flavour is strange; it's not like bacon or like most pork. It just tastes like processed artificial pork.

It mentions on the front of the pack that it's suitable for vegetarians so it's not got any bacon in it at all. They also have a more prominent salty profile than flavour so they are really not that satisfying to eat and are definitely not the crisps that you're going to mindlessly enjoy and eat.

The texture of the crisps is okay; they're thin and super crunchy and crispy. The snap to them is also great which adds to the experience. After eating most of the pack; I notice a slight spicy kick to it, most probably from the black pepper which gives it a bit of heat and uniqueness. Though, it only appears quite late while eating them; which doesn't really add to the taste at all.

Ingredients and Nutritional Information

Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oils in Varying Proportions [Rapeseed, Sunflower], Smokey Bacon Flavour Seasoning [Rice Flour, Yeast Extract Powder, Salt, Smoked Dextrose, Dextrose, Sugar, Flavouring, Black Pepper Powder, Cayenne Pepper Extract, Colour (Paprika Extract), Citric Acid].

Nutritional Information per bag (25g): 133 calories, 8.1g fat (0.7g saturates), 13g carbohydrates (less than 0.5g sugars), 0.8g fibre, 1.7g protein, 0.28g salt.

Conclusion

Generally, these are not the greatest in the variety pack. I would generally avoid or just use them for cheap filler crisps rather than something to eat as a snack. It does have a decent crunch and the texture is nice but the flavour is just artificial pork flavour. The salt dominates the palate and there is a bit of spice but it just comes too late.
