Review: Lidl’s Azenha do Mar Rosé Is Crisp, Light, and Surprisingly Elegant

Posted on June 24, 2025

Lidl's Azenha do Mar Portuguese Rosé is an amazing choice in Lidl's wine aisle. It just costs around £5 and is a wine that I believe is both affordable and honestly- a hidden gem. It is a light, crisp and fruit-forward experience that rivals bottles twice or even three times the price.

Appearance and Aroma

When pouring, you will notice that the Azenha do Mar Rosé has a soft salmon-pink hue which is quite typical of young rosés. It's not a vibrant, deeply coloured wine, but rather a much more delicate, translucent pink that reflects its subtlety. The clarity is excellent as it is clean, bright and visually inviting.

The aroma isn't going to be strong or overwhelm you when you open the bottle. It is quite a restrained aroma which only has a few faint traces of fruit at a distance to it. However, when you get closer to sniff it reveals soft notes of raspberry and red fruit which gives a preview of what's next to come.

Taste and Texture

The first sip confirms what the appearance and aroma had hinted at- this is a light-bodied wine with a crisp and slightly tart edge. The fruity notes, especially the raspberry ones, are present but subtle. There is a refreshing acidity to it that helps to balance the wine keeping it from feeling overly sweet or flat.

One of the great features of this is the aftertaste which is delicate. The flavours linger onto the tongue for a few moments which offers a finish that is far more refined than what one would expect for a £5 wine. It isn't complex but there is an elegance that makes it more than just a cheap bottle of wine.

Conclusion

Overall, for just £5, the Lidl Azenha do Mar Rosé gives lightness, subtle fruitiness, crispness and it is remarkably easy to enjoy. However, it may not impress those who are looking for a bold or complex flavour. It doesn't try to be that rather it is a refreshing experience at a price which is difficult to beat.

If you're after a budget-friendly rosé that feels more premium than the price tag suggests then this one is a great contender. It is a wine that proves you don't have to spend a lot to enjoy a quality drink which makes it a 4 out of 5 for quality.
