Lidl Bakery Apple Turnover Review

Posted on June 27, 2025

Lidl's Bakery Apple Turnover is a very affordable pastry which only costs £0.65. Though it can also be occasionally found at lower pricers depending on offers from Lidl Plus or the time of day. This makes it one of the best-value items in Lidl's in-store bakery. It is a great go-to choice those who are after a quick delicious snack. It is just cheap or is it genuinely good? Let's find out!

Taste and Texture

The apple turnover has an exceptionally light and flaky crust that shatters easily under a bite which gives a satisfying crunch. Despite the puffiness of the turnover, the pastry remains quite sweet with a delicately crusted outer layer which enhances its appeal. I find it airy and crisp and somewhat like the Alpenfest Apple Strudel that they sell on Austrian Week.

Inside, the apple filling is very well-balanced. It is neither too sweet nor too sharp- it has a tart note with just a touch of cinnamon. The apple chunks are cut to just the right size allowing it to melt slightly into a gooey warm texture when heated contrasting with the flaky outer shell.

Heating the turnover (either 20-30 seconds in the microwave or 5-10 minutes in the oven at 150 celsius with fan [please use the oven- it is better this way!]) transforms into an even better pastry. It softens the filling and crisps the pastry perfectly.

Conclusion

Lidl's Bakery Apple Turnover therefore delivers a great quality for its low price. It has a sweet flaky exterior and the filling is well-balanced holding its own against pastries that cost double the price. When it is warmed in the oven it becomes even more better as it gets flakier and becomes almost café-level quality.

I suggest getting these with Lidl Plus deals to get them much more cheaper so it becomes even better value. Or catch it at the Bakery Hour discount period. While it might not be the cleanest snack to eat on the go- its flavour, texture and affordability makes it a must-try.
